Chigoli Academy players Francis Mtoso, Emmanuel Mitole and Lovemore Mbeta were the first Chigoli Academy players to ever represent Malawi at National Team level when playing in the recent COSAFA Cup in Mauritius.
Exceeding Chigoli's expectations they all scored, were responsible for 5 of 6 Malawi goals or assists and Francis was named Captain for their last two games.
Literally, changing the game.
CHigoli Academy - Developing pathways of Excellence FOR gifted children in East Africa
Malawi's premiere elite football development academy. Chigoli stands on three pillars - Advanced Football Coaching, Education and Character Development.
Chigoli means 'goal' in Chichewa, the main traditional language of Malawi. Malawi is the poorest country in the world per capita with the majority of the population trapped in cycles of poverty. A country where under 12% of children finish secondary school and over 10% of the population live with HIV. Football is hugely under resourced and there are a lack of youth leagues in the country.
Chigoli work to identify talented young boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 17, then train them in a holistic, player-centred environment. Among Chigoli’s Academy players, 95% come from backgrounds of poverty – the majority of their families live well below the poverty line.
Chigoli’s goal is to give these young people a future and create role models for generations to come.
In practice this means Chigoli invest deeply in our players’ lives. We provide training, fund their education and offer nutritional and emotional support in order for them to fulfill their potential.
For those who display academic or footballing potential Chigoli offer life-changing pathways to previously unattainable opportunities.
In addition to the Academy, Chigoli operates a vibrant community program supporting the local community around our base on the outskirts of Lilongwe, coaching over 150 boys and girls 4 times a week.
Chigoli is developing plans to expand it’s reach across East Africa, becoming a force in youth development to generate a flow of players to represent the region on the world stage.
Chigoli – Change the Game.
Travel To Malawi
Malawi is a beautiful country in South East Africa of circa 16m of the friendliest people on the continent.
In 2015 the World Bank declared Malawi the poorest country in the world per capita. The effects of this are everywhere. There is a chronic lack of drugs in hospitals and the average Malawian lives below the poverty line. Of Malawian children 50% suffer from stunting due to poor nutrition. Around 10% of the population lives with HIV.
Schools are under huge pressure. Insufficient classrooms and resources often lead to class sizes of over 100 pupils; education is often reduced to learning by repetition.
Most children don’t stand a chance.
Chigoli was established in 2014 to offer pathways out of poverty for talented and gifted children, using football and education to connect with and support disadvantaged groups.
Malawi needs positive role models to inspire future generations. Chigoli is working to find and enable community leaders of the future.
